The Hearst Towe r was designed and built in 2006 by British architect Norman Foster : a 46-story building of glass and steel to house the offices of the Hearst publishing group.
The triangular structure of the steel beams that frame diagonally across large portions of glass, designed to form a diamond shape. This is not a mere aesthetic choice. The triangular shapes have in fact resulted in a saving of 20% of steel less than the amount used for a traditional structure, equal to 2 thousand tons of steel.
